Background

I have a background in architecture, with around 20 years of experience across a wide range of building projects, including design, documentation and project delivery.

From early on, my interest has been in how buildings are experienced by the people who use them – how they feel, how they perform in everyday conditions and how well they support comfort and wellbeing over time.

Alongside this, I developed a strong interest in building performance, particularly the behaviour of the building envelope and the role it plays in occupant comfort, energy use and long-term durability. This is closely connected to reducing energy demand and supporting more sustainable, long-lasting buildings.

Focus

My work centres on making building envelope performance visible through testing and observation.

Through airtightness testing and thermal imaging, I investigate how buildings are performing in use – not only in terms of measurable outcomes, but in how those conditions are experienced by the people who occupy them.

Approach

I approach each project with the aim of building a clear understanding of how the building is performing in use.

Measured data and on-site observation are considered in context – including the building’s construction, age, exposure and patterns of use – to help develop an informed interpretation of how the building is performing.

Equally important is listening. Conversations with occupants provide valuable insight into how a building is performing day to day, while discussions with project teams help establish context and inform the investigation.

In many cases, the value of the work lies not only in the results themselves, but in how those results are understood and used.

Working With Me

I work alongside architects, consultants, certifiers and builders as part of a broader project team, contributing independent information that can support construction quality, verification or further investigation.

I value a collaborative and constructive approach, where the aim is to understand conditions clearly and work towards practical outcomes. My role is to make building performance easier to see, discuss and address as part of a shared process.

I also work directly with homeowners. These projects often involve understanding lived experience – comfort, drafts or other concerns – and translating that into clear and meaningful observations.

In Practice

My focus on testing reflects a broader interest in understanding how buildings perform beyond drawings and specifications.

It provides an opportunity to engage with built outcomes – to see how materials, construction, environmental conditions and patterns of use come together in reality.

This ongoing learning continues to inform my architectural thinking and professional development.
